Job Description
General Responsibilities The Agricultural Innovation Systems Scientist will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team with a common goal of and responsible for working to sustain and improve the rice sector in Africa consistent with WARDA's mission and strategy. His or her specific responsibilities are, but not limited to: 1. Develop, stimulate and assess institutional innovations to improve interactions between rice growers, input and output markets, service providers, researchers, media and policy makers; 2. Facilitate linkages to build competitive value chains for rice and vegetable crops enhancing market access for smallholder land and water users; 3. Research innovation systems and interact with private and public sector to strengthen rice seed systems, rural learning & value chains; 4. Conduct research and publish on rice-based innovation systems in Africa in collaboration with national and advanced research institutes; 5. Supervise MSc and PhD students in innovation systems research; 6. Contribute to developing regional training courses on innovation systems research; 7. Develop annual work plans, M&E strategies and budgets in consultation with the Program Leader and other staff; 8. Prepare presentations, publications and take initiative in developing project proposals; 9. Contribute to WARDA's outcomes as specified in the Center's Performance Measurement Indicators.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should have: (1) a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics, Sociology or Anthropology; (2) demonstrated skills in analysis of agricultural innovation systems; (3) demonstrated experience in working in Africa; (4) ability to work with researchers from other sciences and backgrounds; (5) excellent communication and facilitation skills; (6) experience of working with private sector and interacting with policy makers; (7) proficiency in written and spoken French or English with a good working knowledge of the other; (8) project management experiences will be a plus.
