West Africa region – choice of residential or FIFO
International mining company
Our client is an international mining house with an enviable portfolio of assets in three countries. With their African operations consisting of recently commissioned mines and an exploration team focused on identifying and developing new deposits, they are seeking to appoint an experienced safety manager in country to develop and deliver safety systems and frameworks and drive a strong safety culture down through the operations.
Managing a small team of safety professionals, you will be responsible for the following:
Establishing the safety management systems and procedures in line with Legislation and the organisation’s corporate safety framework
Overseeing the safety training for all staff including expats, nationals and third country national staff to ensure a competency based approach
Developing relationships with labour groups and Government stakeholders to ensure accountability is achieved
Corporate reporting and conducting safety investigations
Qualifications
To be successful for the role, you will possess the following:
A tertiary qualification in a safety related field
Experience operating at a senior level in mining, ideally in the African environment
Proven background in implementing behavioural safety management systems
French language skills and understanding and sensitivity toward different cultures
The ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and develop strong relationships
